I wanted to take 2 stars away because it is overpriced for the power supply it is (-1) and it has 60mV of ripple at 12.35V (-1) but I added one because compared to, say, the SBIG power supply for my camera at $180 this is a steal. I am used to making my own supplies and cables and know that it is a $20 power supply that they probably get for $10 and then the connectors they use cost them probably $2 each, which is a lot for a connector. But after markup, $55 is sort of reasonable. Their MSRP is not worth it. Don't pay MSRP. Also, while there was around 60mVpp, it was a very continuous and steady ripply that clearly resembled the discharging of a capacitor around 9Hz. So, nearly any regulator down the line from this will surely clean it up vs lower class supplies with really bad ripple all over the place.Overall I recommend it because it is convenient not to have to worry about making a cable, picking the right power supply and making sure it works properly just to save $15-25. When it comes to OEM supplies, it is actually reasonably priced as mentioned before.Sorry for the awful picture. It does what it’s supposed to but the price is astronomical (pardon the pun). The only reason I bought this was because if the Celestron mount gets fried, I have a Celestron part to blame. So I basically paid the premium for insurance purposes. The mount comes with a cord to plug in to a 12v car lighter socket. If you use the telescope at home you might not be able to run the cord to your car. So use this converter to get 12v power for the mount from a 115v receptacle. Alternative is to haul a heavy car battery or a 12v power pack around.I purchased this adapter so I could use my AVX mount at home for an unlimited amount of time. It has a screw on connector that fits with the one on the AVX. The adapter has a green LED, they intentionally made it dim, and it doesn't kill my night vision. I'm not sure why it is so expensive, the wire itself seems too thin and I'm afraid I would break it. Celestron really has nothing to gain from that price considering the amount of sales they make on other merchandise. Anyways, what I did was zip-tied the whole adapter onto my AVX tripod leg and just hooked it onto an extension cord so there is no danger of me accidentally stepping on the adapter or the cord. Suffice it to say the 5 amps ensures that the mount will have extra juice for moving my 29lb OTA. So far there have been no problems, and the AVX moves the OTA like butter. I recommend this adapter because the screw on connector. If your willing to pay for it do it. If not then you can get a 5 amp adapter elsewhere, but probably without the screw on connector.I just received this and have not had a chance to use it. But it is clearly not a genuine Celestron product as shown in the Amazon Website photo. It says "SCEPTRE" where "Celestron" appears on the genuine product, came in an unlabeled plastic bag, and there is no PN #18780 anywhere to be found. It looks just like the Celestron product, and like many Chinese products may have come from the same factory. It was not available as a Prime item, and I had to pay shipping, so , assuming it works, it would be expensive to return it, but I am miffed at Amazon that they allow such misrepresentation to occur.I have seen other product reviews here that indicated that they didn't get an actual Celestron power supply so I'm just letting you know that I did. I have also known people personally who did get something that they didn't order, like the same kind of stuff but a different brand, so it is possible for Amazon to possibly swap out a product. And that is not right.Im not sure why there are so many reviews saying they received a cheap chinese power supply. This is sold by Celestron i bought 2 and both were Celestron branded 5amp 12volt power supplies exactly what i ordered. I do agree these are WAY WAY WAY over priced but thats what happens when buy name brand.I should have not been cheap, and bought the goods when I first bought my telescope.I bought the cheaper adapter which never really made a snug connection, and thus my hand controller never had a constant connection to the power supply. This 18780 is the goods! It threads onto the port on the telescope, and as such, has a rock solid power connection, which is exactly what’s needed when you are dealing with 40,000 items in the memory bank of a Celestron hand controller.Do not look for a bargain when keeping power to your telescope via an adapter! 100% recomendado.Excelente calidadLove the threaded ends, and the extension cableWorks as it should.. Expensive for a power adapter hence the 4 stars.
