I had been looking at these boots forever, but was hesitant because of the cost. I got two pairs of shoes at a local store only to return them because they just didn't look or feel like quality. I don't buy new things often so when I do I like them to last and I like to get a couple years wear. I have another pair of Frye boots very similar to these that have held up so great but started to show signs of wear so I wanted to replace them with something that was classy and casual. Tried them on as soon as they arrived and let me say they are PERFECT. I'm a true 8.5 and they fit just right. I have small ankles which I think is a must for these shoes. Also, if your foot is very wide, I probably would not recommend these, they are fine for a normal to narrow foot, but could be difficult to zip for wider than average feet. I got the Dark Ash grey and it's a great color that I think will go with just about anything in my closet. As long as Frye keeps their commitment to quality leather, I'll keep going back. My friend Marcy saw them and exclaimed, "Are those FRYE boots? You have a pair of FRYE boots?? Fryes are reeeeaaalllyyyy nice."So this time around, when my usual brand didn't have any elegant gray boots, I decided to check out this brand. I saw the price for these marked clear down to $90, so I was excited to try them. I was saddened by how uncomfortable they were. The arch support was uncushioned and just too far back: it didn't meet my foot. The toe box was crammed, too. All my weight was shifted onto my big toe/ball of my foot. I do have pretty fussy duck feet: skinny heel with a wide front (I need 4" across. These are close).I really wanted these to work, so I did some research. Some said Fryes just don't break in. Others said they will break in eventually and form like butter to your foot. I couldn't risk it.Yes, the leather is soft and lovely. Yes, the outer craftsmanship is top notch. But I hold these up next to my Rockport/Cobb Hill boots and I just can't justify keeping them.Rockport should have Frye's legendary reputation. The leather and craftsmanship are excellent, and THE COMFORT. My stars and soles, THE COMFORT. It's unbelievable. I can walk a mall in Rockports and not want to rip my feet off after. Even L'Artiste are more comfortable than these, and cuter.Take a page, Frye. Take a page.Love Frye boots!I can wear it with my jeans casually or dress it up a little for work! Absolutely luu oh Fe it, color is perfect too!These are lovely and I’ve received many complements. I wear an 11 med. and they fit true to size. My only complaint is that I wish the insoles were removable (they’re glued in) so that I could use a higher quality insert to improve the arch support.
